2021: Begun in 2021 during COVID as a project to help needy people.
GRINista was started as a project during the COVID-19 in 2021 by Suraj Singh when he had recognized the need to distribute food among the local underprivileged community who were struggling to get even 1-2 times of their meal in a day during the lockdown period. This way it started as a project to distribute food and old clothes to the needy people. Later as COVID ended the project was focused and committed to work towards sustainability.
The same period of distributing food, clothes was life changing because of the experiences it delivered but prominently talking with the people has served as base of the deep insights that could be made use for the society back to back again. Besides this, to our surprise, we were unaware that we would be getting plenty of support from many of the people around us who used to witness our activity initially in our small closed circle of acquaintances. The proposal to help this initiative with cash or kind, people came forward with whatever capacity they could. By this we were now sure and confident how It was just a start by few young students, continuing with it during the period, and we gathered support for all the efforts and here proved yet again good people are always there to support good causes!
After serving for a period of a few months, the associated lockdown was bound to end, and it did end. This marked the end of our regular food/clothes distribution drives that were operational. But the motto to serve the society could not end. These few months ignited in us a spirit to create a robust system which can cast an impact which would be sustainable and long term in its very nature. This time with its pivoted form, GRINista was initiated to cast an even bigger impact and that’s how our current journey at GRINista has begun!
2022: Chosen by the UN Millennium for the year 2022 Fellowship
GRINista was selected for the UN Millennium Fellowship facilitated by Millennium Campus Network, and getting ahead with this competitive recognition helped GRINista frame its initial execution story.
How we Work at GRINista
Today we are a team of 100+ of young, humane, talented individuals who have joined hands together to contribute their part in the noble mission of sustainable development that we are trying to achieve. Following are the SDGs that define and can sum up what we do primarily at GRINista: SDG 11, SDG 12 and SDG 13
GRINista has been able to impact thousands of people through offline direct channels and even more than that through online medium of communication, researches, awareness drives, webinars, etc where we have been able to cast a substantial impact in the process.
2023: Featured in the famous Council for Inclusive Capitalism
GRINista becomes one of the very few organisations to get featured on the Council for Inclusive Capitalism for its constant impact and contribution to promoting sustainability. It served as a major motivation for GRINista when its constant efforts were recognised on a global stage. This fuelled our efforts even further to soar higher.
2025: Major Support from BizGlows Labs
Until 2025, GRINista has been actively involved in advocating, awareness drives, seminars, research, and academics, etc to promote sustainability. It was fun and a very important check to strengthen our core.
In 2025, we received our major funding and handholding support from BizGlows Labs to extend our years-long expertise to some actual active ground operations in real time. We are expanding fast and always welcome those who are passionate about waste management, sustainability, etc from their heart.
